Hi Jerry,

One piece shower/tub enclosure, can one piece shower enclosure installs directly to the stud?

Hi Richard,

In most locations, yes.

However, if (for one example) the wall is a wall which would be a fire-resistance rated assembly, then no. But that would not apply to a typical dwelling unit unless part of a townhouse.

The best overall answer without a specific location installation is going to be "In most locations, yes."

The specific answer is "Check the installation instructions and then the code for that specific location.", however, that gets beyond the information you would normally have available (i.e., the installation instructions for the one piece shower/tub enclosure are seldom around when you are inspecting them after the fact as installed).
