What, if anything, does the IBC have to say about commercial parking lots?

Hi Aaron,

Just to clarify, you did say, and mean, parking "lots" and not parking "garages", correct?

For parking "lots", you mean other than ADA accessibility requirements? If so, then the IBC does not much of anything at all.

That said, there are ADA requirements which must be met.

Codeman:

Specifically I am looking for anything the IBC and/or IRC mentions regarding the concrete used in parking lots (not garages).

Thanks,

Hi Aaron,

I would start with ACI 318 for what you are looking for as the code does not address much at all about parking lots in general and nothing about the concrete used for their surfaces in particular, surfaces which are normally asphalt anyway.

I suspect that ACI 318 would address minimum thickness and minimum strength for the concrete parking area surface, and that it be air-entrained as it is exposed to the weather and other corrosives (such as dripping from vehicles).
