Gas Fired Appliance Fire Separation

Gas Fired Appliance Fire Separation

New postby cxagent on Sun Jan 22, 2012 9:39 am

I am told there is an ICC code requirement to provide fire rated walls separating any gas fired appliance from the commercial building space.
I have been searching the IBC and IMC.
Can you point me to this code requirement?

Sounds like you are describing an "incidental use" area with some other use or occupancy area.

You did not specify which edition of the IBC is in effect in your area, so I will refer to the 2006 IBC as that is the most commonly adopted version at this time: Table 508.2 may address what you are referring to.

These two probably address what you are asking:
- TABLE 508.2
- - INCIDENTAL USE AREAS
- - - ROOM OR AREA -|- SEPARATION AND/OR PROTECTION
- - - Furnace room where any piece of equipment is over 400,000 Btu per hour input -|- 1 hour or provide automatic fire-extinguishing system
- - - Rooms with boilers where the largest piece of equipment is over 15 psi and 10 horsepower -|- 1 hour or provide automatic fire-extinguishing system
